I recently spent a bit of money at e.l.f. during their September 50% online store sale, and
among other things (More reviews coming!), I bought 4 of their matte lip colors, keep reading for swatches, and at the bottom I will include an overall review.
The colors I decided to buy were 3 nudes: Nearly Nude, Natural, and Tea Rose, and then one bright red/berry color: Wine
Below is a picture of the swatches on my hand but, if you would like to see the colors in action on my lips and a full review of each color please keep reading!
Here is a picture of my natural lip color, because my lips are naturally pink I wanted to include this pic, because the colors may show up differently depending on your regular lip color.
- The First color, Nearly Nude, was a little out of my comfort zone for usual lip colors. I don't have another color like it, and even though dark lips are 'in' (as always) for fall, with my larger collection of darker colors, I decided to try this one out, because My hair is now a white silvery color, and with my quite pale and fair complexion, I thought it may suit me nicely, and make me look almost 'Angelic'.
Below is it swatched on my lips, I also included one picture with a mauvey lip liner (L'Oreal Color Riche in Eternal Mauve). It is VERY light and may not look good on darker skin tones, especially without a lip liner.
- The next color, Natural, is another beautiful nude color. As the name describes it is definitely a "your lips, but better," color on fair skin tones.
In my opinion this color is the perfect nude pink. I think it would suit most people, and again below it is swatched on my lips with and without lip liner.
- The third color, Tea Rose, is definitely my favorite! If you gravitate more towards cooler toned pinks/natural lip colors, this is the one for you. A lot of reviews of this color were negative saying it 'washed them out' and 'made their face look pale and dead'. This color with my white hair, and cool toned skin looks perfect though and I'm so glad I bought it!
With a purple/pink eye shadow look, and light blush, and highlight, this color looks absolutely stunning! It definitely has a light purple hue though which may cause people with red toned hair, and darker skin tones to look washed out.
- The last color, Wine, is perfect for fall. It is a beautiful berry cool toned bright red. I'm usually scared to buy cheaper bright reds and dark colors because I'm always afraid they'll fade badly, but even though it does fade after a few hours, the fading is not streaky, it is very moisturizing and doesn't dry into your creases like other dark lipsticks I've tried.
Here you can see it on my lips of course, this time the lip liner is used underneath the color simply because I don't have a dark red liner to pair with it. I do think it is necessary to wear a liner with this because the rounded head on the stick doesn't make for a perfect application, but it can be cleaned up with concealer as well. A dark red or purple liner would look ace with this color though.
(It looks like a hotter pink due to the lighting but I swear the color is darker in person!)
Overall, I think these were very moisturizing, and beautifully pigmented colors. I made sure my lips were not dry beforehand, but don't include a lip balm or chap stick under the lipsticks because I found it made them come off patchy. Before applying I washed my face and quickly exfoliated my lips just to make sure all the dead skin was gone, then lightly dabbed some chap stick on. They did not dry my lips out and faded without looking embarrassing. I highly recommend these! I love the color pay off and I forgot to include a picture, but a sharpener is included at the end of the stick (where the block of color is). Seven colors are available on their website: http://www.eyeslipsface.com/studio/lips
They are definitely worth the price!! (seriously 3 dollars!!)
I hope you enjoyed this review!
